Division Information
GVLL is organized into several divisions for both baseball and softball. This is based on age standards (2025 Baseball Age Chart) defined by Little League International. Detailed information on our Baseball Divisions will help give you a better understanding of each level of play.
Division Eligibility Age (T-ball through American Division)
Great Valley Little League realigned of our age divisions in recent years. To better develop our players and give families more options for their child’s baseball experience, the League opened the age of eligibility for some of our youngest divisions. The changes include:
- T-ball starts at league age 4 year old’s
- 6 year old's can choose T-ball or Rookie Division (machine pitch).
- 8 year old's can tryout to make an American Division (live pitching) team.
“League age” is defined as your child’s age on August 31st of that season.
Why did we do this?
This has been a topic of discussion for some time. We understand that every child will develop at their own pace. It is also important to Great Valley Little League to keep a child’s interest in the game of baseball. If a child is exceling at an early age, we do not want to stifle that ability. To be better partners in your child’s baseball experience, it is essential that Great Valley Little League allows families to have that flexibility.
Parent’s options
At these transition ages, you have the option to play in either division. If your child is 6 years old and is ready to play baseball at the machine pitch baseball level, select the Rookie Division option.
If your child is 8 years old and is ready to play baseball at the live pitching level, select the American Division option. The American Division requires players to attend an evaluation to determine the skill level of each player used in the team draft process. There is no guarantee your 8 year old player will be drafted onto an American Division team. If your 8 year old player is not drafted onto an American Division team, they will be transferred to the Rookie Division and a refund will be issued for the price difference between the divisions.
Jr/Sr Division
To our middle school and high school players, at GVLL we are fully open to accommodating players’ schedules. We understand that playing for GVLL may be a second priority for players rostered on a middle or high school team. Spring Juniors and Seniors play is weekends-only and while we offer practices during the week, they are optional for players who have other baseball commitments. We also fully comply with high school coaches’ or players’ preferences to avoid having players who are in the rotation for their school teams also pitch at GVLL during the school seasons.
Softball Division
Chester Valley Little League and Great Valley Little League are excited to announce that the two leagues will be combining the SOFTBALL programs again in Spring 2024! The two leagues believe that this will enhance the experience of the girls playing in the leagues, as well as provide an opportunity to build up the programs. A lot of thought and consideration was given to this move and the benefits are many. To find out more information and register for SOFTBALL, please visit the CVLL website.
Note: Please make sure to upload your player's birth certificate and proof of residency information into their secure participant profile in order to validate requirements.
